Proton Mail

Swiss email with end-to-end encryption and a zero-access architecture.

Proton Mail — Privacy / Encryption

Proton Mail is the reference infrastructure for encrypted email: born at CERN and based in Switzerland, it applies end-to-end encryption and zero-access security. Only the sender and recipient hold the cryptographic keys — not even Proton itself can read the content of messages stored on its servers.

It blocks tracking pixels and hides your IP address by default, and its applications are open source and independently audited. Protection is further backed by Swiss privacy laws, among the strictest in the world.

It's part of a complete ecosystem — Calendar, Drive, VPN and Pass — that lets you replace the Google suite with encrypted alternatives. The free plan is perfectly usable for personal email, and paid plans unlock custom domains, extra addresses and additional storage.
